Young Actors’ Workshop

Young Actor's WorkshopProgramming for our Children’s Theatre includes our Young Actor’s Workshop sessions directed by Dolly Workman. The classes teach drama and musical theatre to children in 3rd through 12th grade.

In addition, Audition Classes prepare “School of The Arts” candidates for their auditions, for which Private Lessons are available.

Children are broken up by age and grade level, with the younger students (3rd through 6th grade) having Drama classes in the morning from 9:00am – 12:15pm. Students will learn basic acting techniques including: Voice/Diction, Cold-Reading, Scene Study, Improvisation and will play theatre games in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

“This is such an important time for these children, and even those who do not pursue a career in acting will benefit in so many ways, including building confidence and public speaking finesse.” – Mrs. Dolly

The Teens “The Art of Acting” Class will incorporate all the aspects of working on a script from the first reading to production level, with particular emphasis on plot and character development. The class will also include speech, mime and monologue study. All Drama classes are taught by Miss Dolly and Krystyna Barren, who has contributed to 82 films and was nominated for numerous Emmy’s.

Musical Theatre is taught by Brian Andrews, a Veteran of Broadway’s longest running shows “Cats” and “A Chorus Line”. Students will learn all aspects of Musical Theatre from phrasing of a song, interpretation, rhythm and using the whole body as an instrument to perform.

Audition Classes are Tuesday and Wednesday evening and will consist of choosing and working on a monologue, interactive games, presentation techniques, etc.
