The Musical Legacy of Richard Rodgers
October 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, 2014 | Show 1
Shows at 2:00PM and 8:00PM
In the past, we have celebrated the music of Richard Rodgers in programs about his legendary collaborations with Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II. But we have never explored the singular genius of a man who literally helped to define the American Musical Theatre in a career that spanned almost 60 years. With Larry Hart, Rodgers wrote some of the most sophisticated standards in our Great American Songbook., including “With a Song in My Heart,” “Falling in Love with Love” and “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.” With Hammerstein he created some America’s greatest Broadway musicals, including OKLAHOMA, SOUTH PACIFIC, CAROUSEL and THE KING AND I. And after Hammerstein’s death in 1959, he continued writing shows like NO STRINGS, DO I HEAR A WALTZ? and I REMEMBER MAMA. Truly, no single composer gave us more “Enchanted Evenings” than Richard Rodgers!
