It is generally agreed that Irving Berlin is America’s greatest songwriter. George Gershwin called him “the greatest song writer that has ever lived!” And when asked about Berlin’s “place” in American music, Jerome Kern famously replied, “Irving Berlin has no place in American music. He IS American music!” Because he wrote both for Broadway and Hollywood for over fifty years, it’s impossible to honor his contribution to American music in a single program. So our first program on Irving Berlin will focus on his Broadway career which began in 1908. His songs became the highlights of THE ZIEGFELD FOLLIES (especially when introduced by Al Jolson or Fanny Brice). Later musical comedies like ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, THIS IS THE ARMY and CALL ME MADAM gave us songs like “I Got Lost in his Arms,” “Doin’ What Comes Naturally,” “Oh, How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning” and “”You’re Just in Love.”  Call today for tickets to live shows in Delray Beach, FL.
