BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! – RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women

July 30, 2022 @ 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Based on her book RESPECT: WOMEN AND POPULAR MUSIC, Dorothy Marcic has created a musical  revue high-lighting the history of women in America, from 1900 to the present. The revue depicts a movement from codependence to independence…with songs like, “I Will Survive.”

It’s a journey that takes women from the promise of “I Will Follow Him” to the defiance of “These Boots are Made for Walking” through the cynicism of “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” to the pride of “I Am Woman.”

Combining excerpts from over 60 songs with women’s personal stories about realizing dreams, loves won and lost and battering against glass ceilings, RESPECT features such period favorites as “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “I Wanna Be Loved By You,” “As Long As He Needs Me” and “Whatever Lola Wants” along with such modern standards as “Where the Boys Are,” “It Must Be Him,” “The Greatest Love of All,” and “Stand by Your Man.”
