Alfred Drake will always be remembered best as the first performer to sing the words, ” Oh, What a Beautiful Morning!” As Curley in the original production of OKLAHOMA, he also introduced such Rodgers and Hammerstein classics as “People Will Say We’re in Love” and “Surrey With the Fringe on Top.” His credits also include Rodgers & Hart’s BABES IN ARMS (which featured songs like “Where or When”), Cole Porter’s KISS ME KATE (in which he introduced “So in Love” and “Wunderbar”) and KISMET (which featured songs like “And This is My Beloved” and “Baubles, Bangles and Beads.”) He also recreated the Maurice Chevalier role in the Broadway production of GIGI (“Thank Heaven For Little Girls” and “I Remember it Well.”) Known for his superb enunciation and bravura acting style, Alfred Drake reigned (for four decades) as one of Broadway brightest stars.
